A now "deceased" website on RSS marketing and RSS publishing - a look at the history of internet marketing

A Note from the Author: The RSS Diary is Closed

rssdiary.marketingstudies.net was built to help marketers get the most from RSS. However, much has changed since the site was last updated in 2007 - and it's pretty fair to say that it's now completely outdated.

Since I've moved on to other interests in internet marketing years ago, the site is now officially closed, and only remains online as an archive of a part of internet marketing's past. This is how we used to see RSS between 2004 - 2007. We don't, anymore, but there's no harm in having a small part of our past available online.

With that, I'm also making the e-book that started all of this, Unleas the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS, available for free download.

Attensa Metrics and RSS from the Investor's Point of View

Scott Quick, who recently invested in the Attensa Network, just launched his "All Things RSS: Musings on RSS from an investor's point of view" blog.

An interesting read, if you're wondering about the investor point of view, and if you're wondering what the Attensa Network is all about.

From Scott's blog:

"The Attensa Network provides businesses, marketers, agencies and publishers the ability to gather, process and analyze privacy protected attention data within discrete Publisher-Subscribers Networks.

Attensa's network infrastructure also has the ability to span multiple disparate communities, sites, businesses and software applications. When attention data is captured and analyzed on this massive scale, it creates rich, actionable behavioral insights and yields innumerable benefits."

It's becoming increasingly evident that Attensa is going head-strong in to the RSS metrics space, based on Attention.xml. Since information is still scarce I am looking forward to asking them hard questions in an upcoming interview shortly.

What is very evident is that Attensa will be trying to provide rich RSS metrics and behavior data, while at the same time maintaining full user privacy.

"But perhaps most intriguing is the notion of enabling Trust Management across the entire RSS ecosystem. Attensa is in an ideal position establish itself as a "Trust Authority" for RSS on two axes:

1. Certification Authority
Attensa has some very interesting technology that would enable it to act as a Certification Authority (CA) between Publishers and Subscribers.

2. Network Clearing House for Privacy Protected Attention Data
Attensa's ability to gather, process and analyze massive amounts of privacy protected attention data ideally positions them as a network clearing house."
