Copyright and RSS have always been a big issue, since RSS makes it so easy to take content from content producers, display it in full on your website and use it to generate more traffic, search engine juice and especially make money by placing ads next to that content. It's certainly inviting for marketers to take advantage of this RSS capability and it's also understanding from publishers to want to protect their content in some way. The problem is that there is still no clear consensus on what's wrong and what not.

One of the great things about RSS is that it's easily extendable through the use of "namespaces" - simply new custom elements or tags that work with the existing RSS specification - allowing developers to create their own additions to the RSS format.

Along with the good comes, the not so good. And while some have mentioned the emergence of RSS spam, where content publishers dynamically generate nonsensical feeds stuffed with keywords, the real concern relates to security. While an annoyance to the search engines, spam in RSS feeds pales in comparison to the possible security concerns that could be in RSS' future.

I spent some more time with FeedDigest, the tool that helps you display syndicated content on your sites and mix multiple feeds together, and discovered it actually offers much more under the hood than I first anticipated. All in all, a great RSS radar tool. Do we have a market leader in this category here?

The Longorn RSS team just started a work-in-progress, which will become a Windows RSS Publisher's Guide. They start by providing instructions for RSS Autodiscovery, not exactly something new, but also provide some interesting best practices for this feature.
