A now "deceased" website on RSS marketing and RSS publishing - a look at the history of internet marketing

A Note from the Author: The RSS Diary is Closed

rssdiary.marketingstudies.net was built to help marketers get the most from RSS. However, much has changed since the site was last updated in 2007 - and it's pretty fair to say that it's now completely outdated.

Since I've moved on to other interests in internet marketing years ago, the site is now officially closed, and only remains online as an archive of a part of internet marketing's past. This is how we used to see RSS between 2004 - 2007. We don't, anymore, but there's no harm in having a small part of our past available online.

With that, I'm also making the e-book that started all of this, Unleas the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS, available for free download.

No-index Flag for Feeds

Greg Reinacker is picking up the ball and getting concrete in solving the issues we discussed at the RSS Industry Night Roundtable. With incredible speed, his already thrown out a proposal for no-index flag.

RSS Industry Night Roundtable: IRSS Solution Coming

The RSS Industry Night Roundtable yesterday was an amazing event. Quite difficult to explain in words, but it really was the first event where about 95% of the RSS industry sat down together, had dinner and openly started discussing RSS issues. And then came up with a concept of a solution for IRSS ...

RSS Industry Night Roundtable Just Around the Corner

The RSS Industry Night Roundtable in San Francisco is just a few days away and confirmed participation is quite amazing, almost being a "who's who" in the RSS(marketing) industry. Certainly shaping up into one of the best unofficial RSS events of the year.

RSS News at Syndicate

The Syndicate conference was also about new RSS releases and announcements, which are really nicely summed up in the Syndicate wrap-up press release ...

The Syndicate Conference Wrap-up

With the Syndicate conference ending yesterday, I can't help but have some mixed feelings about the entire afair. While almost everyone from the RSS industry was here, I really expected more of the ''hard stuff'', numbers and metrics, best practices and how-to tips, hands-on information that we can take home and do something about.

Enough With the RSS Monetization Already

Monetization of RSS seemed to be one of the great buzz-words at the Syndicate conference, with publishers and marketers wondering just how they can monetize their RSS feeds. But why this rush to monetize RSS?

Traditional Publishing, Blogs and Ad Dolars

Today at Syndicate, Tig Tillinghast of MarketingVox, noted how traditional newspaper readership is decreasing, while the ad money this channel is getting is hardly getting any smaller, even though on the other side of the river new popular content media (blogs) are attracting huge numbers of readers. Tig also gives advice on how to get PR placement in blogs.

Yahoo Publicly Launched Media RSS 1.0 at Syndicate

Yahoo!, during a lunch presentation at the Syndicate conference, just officially released their Media RSS 1.0 standard. This is all part of Yahoo's strategy to create so-called ''My Media'', a combination of mass media and micro media, personalized for the content consumer.

Past RSS Challenges?

With the introductinoary session by Alexander Hungate of Reuters just completed, I have to wonder whether the RSS industry is doing a good job presenting the RSS marketing capabilities.

Wired Customers

The challenge for marketers, according to the speakers, is actually getting out of the way for customers to communicate among themselves and the world about our company, even to use them to help us create our products.

The Syndicate Conference Starting

The Syndicate conference, the premium event for content syndication, is starting in just about 2 hours. Not making any promises, but I'll try to provide as much coverage as possible as the event goes on.

Strategic RSS: The Syndicate Conference Just Around the Corner

The Syndicate conference, focusing on the strategic aspects of RSS for the corporate world, is just around the corner. I'm speaking there as well, so I'll be spending a couple of days in New York this May. Also, we'll hopefully be able to finally present some aggregate metrics on the marketing effectiveness of RSS at the conference ...
