A now "deceased" website on RSS marketing and RSS publishing - a look at the history of internet marketing

A Note from the Author: The RSS Diary is Closed

rssdiary.marketingstudies.net was built to help marketers get the most from RSS. However, much has changed since the site was last updated in 2007 - and it's pretty fair to say that it's now completely outdated.

Since I've moved on to other interests in internet marketing years ago, the site is now officially closed, and only remains online as an archive of a part of internet marketing's past. This is how we used to see RSS between 2004 - 2007. We don't, anymore, but there's no harm in having a small part of our past available online.

With that, I'm also making the e-book that started all of this, Unleas the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS, available for free download.

FeedForAll Demonstrates How Desktop RSS Vendors Can Compete

The one problem facing desktop RSS publishing tool vendors is the lack of advanced RSS marketing and publishing features, which can only be provided via server-side scripting and cannot be packaged into a standalone desktop application.

We're talking about metrics, "list" segmentation, targeting, personalization, autoresponders etc.

FeedForAll.com now seem to have found a solution: providing downloadable scripts, which their users can install on their servers or servers of their hosting providers, to manipulate their RSS feeds.

Their first script aids publishers in delaying the publication of their RSS feed content items, so that they may pre-publish them to the feed, but have them appear only when the appropriate time is reached.

The cool part is that this same approach could also be used for other advanced features, which have up until now been squarely in the domain of server-side RSS publishing & marketing applications.

This space is getting increasingly interesting, which is as always good news for marketers, as they can expect new marketing oriented features to be introduced in the near future and made available at a much lower cost.
