A now "deceased" website on RSS marketing and RSS publishing - a look at the history of internet marketing

A Note from the Author: The RSS Diary is Closed

rssdiary.marketingstudies.net was built to help marketers get the most from RSS. However, much has changed since the site was last updated in 2007 - and it's pretty fair to say that it's now completely outdated.

Since I've moved on to other interests in internet marketing years ago, the site is now officially closed, and only remains online as an archive of a part of internet marketing's past. This is how we used to see RSS between 2004 - 2007. We don't, anymore, but there's no harm in having a small part of our past available online.

With that, I'm also making the e-book that started all of this, Unleas the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS, available for free download.

RSS Advertising: Interview with Bill Flitter, Pheedo.com

We interviewed Bill Flitter of Pheedo.com, one of the leading people in the RSS marketing industry, to get all the key information about advertising in RSS feeds.

We discuss:

  • Different ad placements within RSS feeds.
  • Best RSS advertising strategies and best RSS advertising practices.
  • How to make RSS advertising user-friendly, get best results, not lose readers and keep advertisers happy?
  • RSS advertisement targeting.
  • What's happening with RSS feeds that are already doing advertising in their feeds? Are they losing readership?
  • The role of RSS metrics in RSS advertising and how RSS metrics actually work.
  • Use RSS for lead-generation.
  • How much RSS advertising costs?
  • How much can RSS publishers get from RSS advertising and how they can start publishing ads in their RSS feeds?
  • Emerging RSS ad standards.
  • Can RSS become infested with spam?

One of the key facts from this interview is that from Pheedo's experience companies are seeing better marketing results from RSS in comparison to e-mail. Bill even lists some great examples and tells us how exactly this works.

Among other things, Bill also predicts that rich-media ads and content are soon going to find their way in to RSS feeds ... to the pleasure of advertisers.

And much much more ...
