RSS Just Became More Secure and Thus More Appropriate for Enterprise Implementation

eWeek.com and internetnews.com report that RSS just became more secure and thus more appropriate for wider enterprise use.

Even though there was already much done in the area of feed security, especially from the likes of MyST Technology Partners, the latest developments in the field finally promise to provide the security needed to transfer even the most sensitive data, such as credit card statements and similar.

These developments come from Reactivity, a company claiming to have developed the first really secure way of handling XML content. Their XML infrastructure is said to enable users access, securely transport and encrypt RSS feeds.

internetnews.com lists just one of highly compelling scenarios for future RSS uses, finally enabled by more security:

In one scenario, customers might like to get notification from his credit card company when a transaction has cleared.
"I'd like to know about it soon because if someone is buying surf boards in my name in Hawaii, I'm probably going to spot it way sooner than any of the Visa folks are going to, with all of their correlative tracking software," Nash said in an interview. "They do a great job but it's still like days before they know what's going on."
With RSS, the customer would know sooner rather than later, Nash said. This provides customers with enough time to react and halt the spending spree.

And the first real application is already behind the corner. SimpleFeed is leading the development of a new service for a U.S. bank, which will start delivering RSS notifications to customers when their online bank statements are available.

Their client however wants to wait before thinking of sending any real financial data, as the security model still needs to be proved and verified.
