The Power of RSS For High-Importance Updates: RSS via SMS

SearchEngineWatch reports that Feedbeep, a new service that sends you an SMS alert when new RSS headlines are available, just entered beta, which anyone within the U.S. and Belgium can join.

Your first question might be why you'd want to receive constant SMS alerts about new RSS content items, especially since you must subscribe to dozens and dozens of feeds yourself. Well, think again ...

Feedbeep explains it best:

"FeedBeep is the final link between you and the wealth of information published on the internet. Hundreds of thousands of data feeds are available in RSS format, and now you can receive alerts about events worldwide ? as they happen ? right on your SMS-capable phone. Alerts can be set to go to your mobile device or our web messaging system based on your keywords or any time new information is posted to a feed.

Our users monitor a boggling array of these feeds and get rapid SMS notification about things like:

- New marketing jobs in the Chicago area on craigslist.org,
- Club events on group calendars published at rssCalendar.com,
- Deals for thrifty teachers and moms from DealCatcher.com and Overstock.com,
- Overnight advances and news for medical specialists via MedScape from WebMD,
- Live results from other RSS aggregators like PubSub.com,
- Custom and updated eBay search results from rssAuction.com...
- Social and local events from upcoming.org "

This isn't just news, but crucial information that often requests immediate attention, especially if you're looking for a new job or similar ... powered by RSS.

With services like this, internet users might finally start to realize that news and blog updates are just a small part of what RSS can do for you ...
