A now "deceased" website on RSS marketing and RSS publishing - a look at the history of internet marketing

A Note from the Author: The RSS Diary is Closed

rssdiary.marketingstudies.net was built to help marketers get the most from RSS. However, much has changed since the site was last updated in 2007 - and it's pretty fair to say that it's now completely outdated.

Since I've moved on to other interests in internet marketing years ago, the site is now officially closed, and only remains online as an archive of a part of internet marketing's past. This is how we used to see RSS between 2004 - 2007. We don't, anymore, but there's no harm in having a small part of our past available online.

With that, I'm also making the e-book that started all of this, Unleas the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS, available for free download.

The SEO Industry Cathing Up on RSS?

With RSS getting more and more coverage, "traditional" internet marketing industries start branching out in to it. The SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) industry was quite early to catch on, but only in some limited and highly early adopter circles.

But now it's starting to move in to the more "mainstream SEO" waters. In 2003 I considered myself a late-comer to RSS, but now I guess I'm getting close to dinosaur status. OK, it's not that bad, but I can't get over how the positive aspects of RSS keep getting discovered these days ...

Here's a recent article on About.com that, in a way, addresses this issue:

"How does RSS affect search engine optimization? RSS is the perfect link builder. Google especially looks at inbound links as part of determining a page's ranking importance (otherwise known as PageRank) and RSS provides a wonderful opportunity for this important part of SEO."

Nothing new here ...

And then here's one from an SEO expert:

"Savvy SEO's know that they can boost site optimization efforts by creating RSS feeds containing top search engine results for the keyword / keywords they are targeting and adding them to the client website MSN, Yahoo News, and Gigablast all offer easy to use RSS feeds of their search results."

"My experience is that placing a "keyword-targeted" feed on your webpage will greatly enhance your ability to achieve optimum keyword density for your targeted term(s). What's more, assuming relevant content is available, a news feed is preferable to a search engine feed for SEO because news feeds are updated more frequently."

"RSS should be viewed as an SEO Best Practice for any website that will remain very static and should be strongly considered as a part of all SEO projects."

Well, we've heard it and said it before, but this time it's coming from an SEO expert and it's even been issued as a press release:)

Hmm ... am I being positive or sarcastic, or a little bit of both?
