Travelocity just surprised me with their new RSS subscription model, giving their visitors the chance to fully customize the travel offers they receive from the company. An excellent IRSS marketing example.
They offer a simple interface where visitors select their trip type, departure city and destinations, and then get their own individualized feed to receive customized travel info, discounted fares news and special offers.
Perfect? No. Good? Yes. Room for improvements?
a] Add the option of choosing a price range.
b] Immediately provide also the direct copy & paste link to the feed. Having to left-click on an image (right-click doesn't work) just doesn't cut it --- really a shame for such a great strategy otherwise.
c] Add RSS capabilities to your searches and other site sections.
d] And for crying out loud, find a good spot to promote it. VISIBLE SPOT!
Other travel sites are bound to follow, since one of the agencies taking care of the market, E-site Marketing, is said to be developing a similar service for their other clients.
And since we're already talking about IRSS, PortletWorks is said to have launched a new Portlet CMS (internal sites) with out-of-the-box RSS feed customization. Must be one of the first ...
