A now "deceased" website on RSS marketing and RSS publishing - a look at the history of internet marketing

A Note from the Author: The RSS Diary is Closed

rssdiary.marketingstudies.net was built to help marketers get the most from RSS. However, much has changed since the site was last updated in 2007 - and it's pretty fair to say that it's now completely outdated.

Since I've moved on to other interests in internet marketing years ago, the site is now officially closed, and only remains online as an archive of a part of internet marketing's past. This is how we used to see RSS between 2004 - 2007. We don't, anymore, but there's no harm in having a small part of our past available online.

With that, I'm also making the e-book that started all of this, Unleas the Marketing and Publishing Power of RSS, available for free download.

Unique RSS Applications: Interview with Sharon Housley, FeedForAll.com

I had a highly interesting discussion recently with Sharon Housley, who heads up marketing for the desktop RSS publishing tool, FeedForAll.

Sharon is constantly in touch with companies implementing RSS as a marketing tool and as such really has excellent insight even in to the most unique RSS marketing applications.

Here are some of the unique uses we covered in this interview:

  • How realtors are using RSS to increase their sales
  • Using RSS to rotate banners on your website
  • Displaying homes for sale using the enclosure tag
  • Distributing PowerPoint presentations and Whitepapers
  • Distributing proposals
  • Videocasting: Delivering video content via RSS

Sharon gives us the exact details on how their clients have implemented the above listed RSS opportunities.

Other interesting topics covered also include FeedForAll's plans on how to actually integrate a desktop publishing solution with existing databases to provide for RSS personalization and customization.

As an RSS solution provider, Sharon does take an interesting viewpoint (very close to mine, actually) on RSS and e-mail, claiming that RSS is an excellent supplemental channel, but not a replacement for e-mail.
