Just recently I received an e-mail from David Koopmans of Mokum Marketing, who gave me the idea for this post. David's idea is simple:
This is how David sees the usefulness of such an application: But, there are two problems:
This is where RSS Radars can come in, enabling you to aggregate dozens or hundreds of RSS feeds, filter them for the relevant keywords to get only the most relevant content for a specific client, and provide that client with his own customized RSS feed, using a service like MySyndicaat.com or pipes.yahoo.com. Plus, using .htaccess you can easily password protect each feed for each individual client. More details in the 2007 edition of the RSS e-book:) Comments
Rok, Thanks for this interesting article. It shows clearly some of the possibilities of RSS radars. Personally we've installed some of these services for our clients and improved them, so not only RSS feeds, but also (messages in) newsletters are automatically "tagged" and distributed by RSS or personal newsletters to customers. If you want some real-world examples for you new e-book, please contact me. I like the aggregation idea. Not sure about the .htaccess as using yahoo pipes would still 'publish the feed'. Really in the near future everyone will be watching everyone watching everyone (still with me I hope?!). You can create feeds to watch what is being said about your company, your competitors, anything. That information is gleaned from the wide open internet. Businesses should not even be ashamed of watching their competitors. It is common sense really. What you need to watch out for is not slandering competitors via comments, whatever. It all shows up anyway, which is why the cluetrain manifesto is so compelling "talk with a human voice" or be nabbed kicking and screaming into marketing hell ;-) DC you are correct about pipies.yahoo.com, although there are probably some work-arounds for that as well. Hey, there is what you need. Hey, there is what you need. Hey, there is what you need. Hey, there is what you need. Hey, there is what you need. Hey, there is what you need.
